The sports business journal recently reported the news of DeepBrain AI.

DeepBrain AI turned pro golfer Kyung-ju Choi

into an AI-generated TV analyst for last month’s SK Telecom Open in South Korea by pairing its proprietary machine learning with speech synthesis technology.

Calling the endeavor, the "AI Kyung-ju Choi Production Project," DeepBrain AI took a novel approach to morphing Choi — the 18th rated golfer in the world — into an alternative form of himself. Rather than relying on a studio visit and a video recording to duplicate the golfer, DeepBrain AI started the process by extracting facial data from Choi’s existing photographs and taped interviews. Following that machine learning, a reference actor was hired to perfect the lip-syncing through the video synthesis technology.

The last step was to combine all of that with SK Telecom’s text-to-speech engine, ultimately producing Choi’s virtual voice. The finished product was a pseudo-Choi, which drew accolades during four days of broadcasts for its genuine mouth movements and gestures while talking. DeepBrain AI’s technology also included training the AI Choi to use proper golf terms for golf news and analysis.
