We are now living in an era of artificial intelligence (AI). It is becoming pervasive in our everyday lives, and sooner or later, it might be our shared reality where it is difficult to distinguish between human intelligence and artificial intelligence.

DeepBrain AI develops AI Humans, and we envision a world where everyone has their very own AI avatar as an extension of their digital persona. Our AI Humans are compatible with the metaverse, but they are much more than a 3D character. Our sophisticated models look real, sound real, and express themselves like real people.

The phrase “virtual human” is no longer science fiction. Companies across Asia are already using DeepBrain AI’s technology to connect with their customers at the office and the home. For example, an AI bank teller is easily accessible within a kiosk at the bank or on a mobile phone at the home.

As much as AI encounters are becoming a daily routine, discussions about the ethical principles of AI are actively underway within technical communities, universities, and governments around the world. AI ethics refers to the principles of development and use of artificial intelligence that allow it to be used fairly, securely, and to coexist for the benefit of all humans.

In December 2020, the Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning of the Republic of Korea prepared the ‘Artificial Intelligence Ethics Standards’ to suggest the desired direction for the development and use of artificial intelligence in this new age of AI. The draft ethical standard aimed at artificial intelligence for humanity was prepared by collecting opinions from various experts in academia, corporations, and civic groups.

The three basic principles are:

In the process of developing and using artificial intelligence to realize humanity,

  1. Human Dignity Principle
  2. The principle of transparency in society
  3. The principle of the purpose of technology must be adhered to.

The 10 key requirements are:

In the entire process of developing and using artificial intelligence to practice and implement the three basic principles,

  1. Human Rights Guarantee
  2. Privacy Protection
  3. Respect for diversity
  4. No Infringement
  5. Openness
  6. Solidarity
  7. Data Management
  8. Accountability
  9. Safety
  10. The requirement of transparency must be met.

In addition, the National Human Rights Commission of Korea recently recommended guidelines for human rights protection related to the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology and the enactment and amendment of laws and regulations. This is the first time that the National Human Rights Commission of Korea has made AI-related recommendations.

The National Human Rights Commission of Korea said, “The development and spread of AI are expected to improve the quality of life of individuals, but issues that violate human rights such as invasion of personal information, privacy, and discrimination are increasing.” Human rights protection standards for AI development and use are recommended to be prepared.”

In this way, the Korean government is disclosing the iron rules of AI ethics, and companies are also making and disclosing AI ethics. Although it is a guideline level that is not compulsory, doubts may arise as to whether it will be effective. If we answer that, we think it will work because ethical issues directly affect business activities. This is because the standards of consumers in the market are high.

So, how should AI ethics be created in the future?

Since an abstract guideline alone is not effective, it is necessary to look at AI development ethics by dividing it into several fields. For example, it can be divided into chatbots, metahumans, deepfakes, and autonomous driving. How about focusing on ethics itself rather than AI ethics from a broader perspective? DeepBrain AI is also working on a digital culture that technology and people create together.
