I’m sure the term NFT is not unfamiliar to people who surf the Internet every day, but can you think of the connection between artificial intelligence and NFTs? Can you imagine the next popular artist being AI? Let’s get started!
A non-fungible token (NFT) is a unit of data stored on blockchain to certify a digital asset to be unique. An NFT can be associated with intangible items, such as pictures, videos, music, and audio files, and tangible items, such as physical works of art, physical concert tickets, real estate, etc.
Whether they can be exchanged with other things determines the essential difference between NFTs and fungible tokens such as Bitcoin. A bitcoin is substitutable because it can be traded for the same bitcoin of the same value.
On the contrary, as a non-fungible token, an NFT is indivisible, irreplaceable, and unique. If you trade it for something else, you are going to get different things with different amounts.
The first-ever NFT in the world is Kevin McCoy’s Quantum, which was minted on the Namecoin blockchain in May 2014, and sold for $1.47m in June 2021 via Sotheby’s.
If you look at Opensea, the world’s largest NFT marketplace, you’ll see that the top five NFT projects (Bored Ape Yacht Club, CryptoPunks, Otherdeed for Otherside, Mutant Ape Yacht Club, The Potatoz) currently traded total 54,874 Ethereum ($88, 282, 266) over the past 30 days.
In this blog, I’m not going to talk about those popular NFTs expressed in cartoons or memes which you may have been familiar with. I’m going to talk about a new genre of NFT, which I believe will be the ‘next big thing’ in the NFT sector and change the existing NFT market. That is AI-generative NFTs.
Before we get to AI-generative NFTs, let’s look at the AI-generative art. Literally, AI-generative art is the art created by AI.
More technically, the machine learning algorithm can generate mass unique and exclusive works of art by using Generative Adversarial Neural Networks (GANs for short), deep neural networks built to generate images by making use of both generative models and discriminative models in learning patterns associated with an image or group of images.
DeepBrain AI, a company that leverages the power of AI to create human-based AI humans, launched its first NFT project in China in August 2022. The project consists of 4,950 unique AI humans’ heads created by deep learning generative models and 50 Chinese speaking AI humans’ videos using deep learning image animation technology.
The launch of the project has given the NFT market, which is already a little tired, a fresh impression of the power and charm of technology-driven products once again. Perhaps that’s why the project sold out 10 seconds after release on China’s ibox NFT platform.
There are many names for AI Humans in the various media we encounter, such as AI Humans, Virtual Humans, Digital Twins, AI Avatars.
DeepBrainAI’s 2D AI Human is a Natural Language Understanding (NLU) enabled digital twin of a real person that shares the same physical appearance, voice, mannerisms, and gestures.
As a real-time conversational AI human, he/she can be a banker, tutor, tour guide, securities analyst, anchor, 7/11 clerk, presidential candidate, etc
Unlike physical robots, AI Humans rely on display devices, such as mobile phones, computers, or smart screens.
Currently, most NFTs do not implement conversational functionality. Soon, if we introduce Natural language understanding (NLU) into NFTs, we can create communicational AI human NFTs which can answer our questions and talk to us.
In addition, speech recognition and tone analysis technologies such as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN), and transformer networks can be used to create audio NFTs in the future.
Technological innovation has revolutionized the art world and injected fresh blood into the overheated NFT market.
We believe that with the help of artificial intelligence technology, there will be more interesting forms of NFTs in the future.
In particular, AI Human NFTs, will become a new favorite in the metaverse because they have dual identities, such as AI avatars and ID cards.

Howie Mandel and virtual human developer DeepBrain AI have launched an interactive, synthetic version of the America’s Got Talent host. ‘AI Howie’ replicates how the real Mandel looks, speaks, and moves, allowing for realistic videos and even real-time interactions with his digital counterpart in web browsers, metaverse virtual worlds, or hologram booths like the Proto kiosk in the video above. Mandel is the latest addition to the growing ranks of synthetic celebrities expanding their careers using platforms like DeepBrain AI.
