DeepBrain AI Modernizes the Employee Check-in Experience with AI Video Synthesis Powered by AWS

Mondelēz International is one of the largest snack companies in the world, with global net revenues of approximately $31.5 billion in 2022. They hold the #1 global position in biscuits (cookies and crackers) and #2 in chocolate, while we’re growing rapidly in baked snacks. Mondelēz has operations in more than 80 countries and employs approximately 91,000 diverse and talented employees in our factories, offices, research & development facilities, and distribution activities around the world.

Customer Challenge

For any global company with the size and scope of Mondelez International, the employee and visitor check-in process can be a pain point, causing a drain on resources and confusion for employees as they travel from one facility to another. The innovation team at Mondelez set out to find solutions that could help modernize and streamline the visitor check-in process while making it fun and engaging at the same time. A faster, automated, and more intelligent check-in process enables employees to get the information they need in real-time, reducing holdups that can lead to running late for meetings, and it also frees up the lobby staff to handle more pressing issues.

Solution

The AI Kiosk from DeepBrain AI has previously been deployed for customer service scenarios at hotels and airports, so it was a natural fit for a busy corporate lobby. DeepBrain AI's solution is fully customizable, which means that clients can implement their preferred/existing speech-to-text and chatbot solutions. For Mondelēz, this was advantageous because they had an existing STT and chatbot supplier already approved. However, if needed, DeepBrain AI could provide the full stack solution stack of STT, chatbot, and AI avatar. To further customize the experience, Mondelēz requested a custom character based on the beloved Chips Ahoy! DeepBrain AI's 3D team created a fully interactive model based on the Chips Ahoy brand book and deployed the video synthesis solution within AWS servers for connection to the Mondelez chatbot.

The use of AWS servers for video synthesis ensured geographic coverage across the country and provided the lowest latency, which is critical for the conversational nature of the AI Kiosk design. The custom avatar developed by DeepBrain AI is powered by AWS services such as Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS), Amazon Elastic File Service (Amazon EFS), and AWS’s cloud infrastructure. All of which guarantees scalability, reliability, and high performance for users. By partnering with AWS, DeepBrain AI’s custom avatar enables a faster, repeatable check-in experience, and the Chip character elicits plenty of smiles from the users

Benefits

While still in the early proof of concept stage, the AI Kiosk with a custom avatar has been deployed in two locations and provides both tangible and intangible benefits. On the tangible front, users receive a consistent check-in experience across multiple locations, which makes the process more familiar and more efficient. Access to requested information is almost immediate and always accurate, which saves time and resources. On the intangible benefits, visitors are always delighted when they are greeted by AI Chip.
